Semi-synthetic derivate of Geldanamycin (LS-1031)
Benzoquinone ansamycin antibiotic. Geldamycin is among other things used to cure cancer patients. It specifically ties up to the heat shock protein 90 (HSP 90) and inhibits its function. Binding of Geldamycin to HSP 90 causes the decomposition of target-proteins such as Tyrosin kinases, Steroid receptors, Transcription factors and cell-cycle involved kinases. It induces the inactivation, destabilisation and finally the decomposition of cancer related proteins like v-Src, Bcr-Abl, p53 or HIF-1a. An extremely interesting research reagent for the biotechnology industry.
