Spermidine inhibits neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS). It binds and precipitates DNA and may be used for purification of DNA binding proteins. It stimulates T4 polynucleotide kinase and T7 RNA polymerase activity.

Spermidine is a polyamine plant growth regulator that promotes somatic embryogenesis.
