Amino Alcohols

Amino alcohols, also known as alkanolamines, describe a product group characterized by an amine and an alcohol functional group. In general, amino acids can be hydrogenated to the corresponding aminoalcohols, e.g. from glycine to ethanolamine. Enantiopure amino alcohol derivatives are used as catalysts, chiral ligands, as well as coupling partners in organic synthesis bearing versatile possibilities to be exploited. Amino alcohol derivatives are currently being studied for their antimicrobial and antifungal activities. Besides, they are part of peptide APIs, e.g. the C-terminal threoninol in octreotide.
